Inflatable Fashion Workshop
TOPIC
Morphing Matter (MM) is a new field that combines material science, programming, and 3D printing technologies to make computational objects with dynamically alterable physical properties.
We are looking for high school girls to attend a hands-on workshop on Morphing Matter. In this workshop, we will develop interdisciplinary skills by creating shape-changing inflatable actuators (based on real research from the Carnegie Mellon University Morphing Matter Lab) and applying design principles to incorporate them into personal fashion projects.
We will document our work and host a brief Show and Tell after the workshop for friends and family.
WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?
The workshop is open to girls (self-identified) between the ages of 14 and 18.
You must be available to attend the workshop on both days. (The Show and Tell is optional but recommended!)
The workshop is free to attend. We may seek volunteers for follow-up interviews with participants after the workshop; if so, we may pay any volunteer interviewees.
Covid Policy: Masks will be required at all times in the workshop room, including during the show and tell for all visitors. Lunch/snacks will be available and can be eaten in nearby indoor or outdoor areas. Do not attend if you are feeling unwell.

WHAT TO EXPECT
In this two-day workshop, you will learn about morphing matter, follow a research process to learn about inflatable actuators, and apply your new skills to prototype your own fashion project.
We will do a variety of activities including hands-on making, technical discussion, and design exploration.
You will document your work and we will host a mini-exhibition at the end of the workshop so that your family and friends can check it out.
